Elvis Presley is the most renowned singer of all time. However, he was also an actor, a musician, an entrepreneur and a cultural icon. He was an American icon who transcended music and changed the whole world with his overall influence.

 Elvis Presley spent his childhood in Tupelo, Mississippi. His parents had a grocery store and young Elvis used to sell homemade sandwiches at school for a profit. He got the nickname “The Hillbilly Cat” because a bunch of female fans always gathered around Elvis anytime he sang a long song, much like a pile of female cats gather around a male cat whenever it is courting.

A single sold 3 million copies of Elvis first album, Hound Dog and Don’t Be Cruel, in 1956, the year his music changed the way people bought music. He broke a world record by receiving over 3,000 birthday cards in 1956.

In 1962, he became the first and only artist to ever be given the “Grand Cross of the Supreme Order of the Phoenix” award by the Greek government.

Presley was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006.

His parents were working-class people of poor education, but they both loved music and did all they could to encourage the development of their children’s talents.

Vernon had a job with the local railroad, and as a carpenter in the area where he worked, came into contact with many musicians and singers. He often took his sons.

Elvis Presley’s Music Career

From the outset, music was Elvis Presley’s main interest in life. He learned how to play the guitar as a child and began singing with his friends on street corners for money.

Presley began his professional music career in 1954 when he auditioned for Sam Phillips, the owner of Sun Records. After hearing a few of Presley’s songs, Phillips decided to sign him to a contract.
